Ebenezer Posh Mill
Type of Project: Loan
Request: Loan for purchase of a maize mill
Location(s): Soy, Kenya, Africa
Recipient: Robert Mulumbi
The Ebenezer Posho Mill project was initiated by missionary Robert Mulumbi and began operating in January of 2005 in the slums of Kangemi, Nairobi. The mill is comprised of a small shack and a maize milling machine for grinding maize meal which is the staple food of most Kenyans. Since other mills in surrounding areas charge much higher prices for milling maize, the Ebenezer Posho Mill felt strongly that it needed to provide services at a lower cost to the customer. Their goal is to help the residents of poverty-stricken Kangemi by providing reduced prices on a service that is needed daily for most Kenyans. Profits of the mill have gone toward supporting Robert’s missionary efforts in Kenya and the slum school of Kangemi which helps HIV orphans.
Robert Mulumbi requested a loan from Trade Palms for the purchase and set up of the milling machine at the Ebenezer Posho Mill on a short-term loan basis. The mill has gone through numerous difficulties during its operation, and recently relocated to Soy, Kenya due to the political uprisings in Nairobi. The mill is currently functioning successfully in Soy.
