Afghanistan and Tanzania Computer Center Project
Type of Project: Purchase and transport
Request: World in Need – United Kingdom (Ron George)
Location(s): Afghanistan and Tanzania
Recipient: World in Need ministries in Afghanistan and Tanzania
World in Need (United Kingdom) requested Trade Palms’ participation in the development of several computer centers to support World in Need ministries in Afghanistan and Tanzania. Specifically Trade Palms was requested to secure the purchase of computers, printers and miscellaneous computer parts, make sure they were in working order and transport them to computer centers in Afghanistan and Tanzania.
When a large Kansas City based company upgraded its computer equipment, Trade Palms was able to secure the purchase of 75 used computers, printers, and miscellaneous items for minimal cost. Four of those computers were sold locally to generate funds to help cover the shipping cost of the project. The remaining equipment was packed and shipped to Pangea Foundation in San Diego, California for refurbishing.
This project took place through the generous donations and collaboration of several organizations. The shipping boxes were donated by International Paper of Kansas City, Missouri, and padded with used clothing donated by The Salvation Army.
Pangea Foundation is a non-profit organization, funded by grants from charitable foundations. They provide technical computer training to those who cannot afford regular technical training. The computers were then refurbished, upgraded, and shipped to equip computer centers in Afghanistan and Tanzania. Both centers are operated under the supervision of associates of World In Need and proceeds go to supporting ministry efforts in each country.
